My Purpose
What do you mean by advance perspective?
To bring unbias knowledge to educate myself, and others to understand, challenge, and expand our perspective around problem spaces and opportunities.
What does bringing people to the centre mean?
To not only bring a human perspective to the centre of the problems I am exploring, but to also integrate stakeholders, colleagues and clients to work together harmoniously.
What does everything I do include?
To ensure I include people at the centre of my work as a researcher and designer, but also how I continuously approach becoming a better friend, colleague, family member and husband.
My Principles
Being open about what I know, and being honest about what I don’t
Approaching new contexts with questions and not answers
Integrating with multiple perspectives to strengthen my outlook
Communicating simply and effectively through words, artifacts and actions
Bringing productive energy to grow confidence around me
Purpose & principles in action
As a researcher, Kevan has a natural ability to communicate complex insights in an engaging way to a diverse range of stakeholders. His presentations and reports are completed to an extremely high standard and he raised the bar for how we do presentations at Tesco. As a mentor, Kevan is approachable, considerate and always made the time to act as a sounding board or review reports for me. Kevan shares his own experiences to inspire others and takes a genuine interest in developing the more junior members of the team. He’s been a great role model and mentor to the team, and we’ve all learned a lot from him.
Kevan worked in my team at Tesco for one year and a half and had an incredible impact on each of the projects he led or was involved in. His natural push to innovation and his capacity to connect people and connect with people collaboration has been an example for his fellow designers and, in general, for his colleagues. He’s the demonstration that we should encourage our researchers and designers to break the traditional boundaries of their usual disciplines, think more strategically and expose themselves to uncomfortable challenges. I am sure he’s gonna be an invaluable asset for any team he will be working in.
I’m delighted to write this recommendation. Sometimes you are hard pressed to find nice things to say about a person, but that is not the case with Kevan. He is diligent. He is honest. He is thoughtful, curious, open-minded and creative. I was lucky enough to help him while serving as a freelance research coach at Doblin/Deloitte, and saw how he took my suggestions and ideas, and ran with them. I could see the instant he saw a nugget in our conversation, and was so pleased to see what he would come up with, based on a single conversation. Kevan is also good people. You will better off having worked with him, just like I am.
Kevan’s design practice is built from a potent cocktail of firm commitment to quality and rigour in process, world-class training and insatiable curiosity to read and learn more, and an endless passion and patience for bringing all others along for the ride. He is the rare designer who infects his work with joy and enthusiasm every day, inspiring all those around him to remember why we love what we do so much.
Kevan is a highly dedicated design researcher, driven by a true desire to make life better. His empathic understanding of people goes far beyond user research. Projects and team members benefitted from Kevan’s care & compassion alike. As a Senior researcher Kevan led the team with best practice approaches, methods & insights framing. Kevan has a natural ability to tease apart complex problems and frame them for a diverse audience. His enigmatic engagement with stakeholders fuelled collaboration and built bridges across the business. His purpose driven leadership provided an excellent role model for the team.
Kevan is an excellent designer and researcher, bringing incredible skill into all our projects. His taste and elevated design presence is matched with an incredible ability to work with all varieties of practitioners, in all varieties of environments. Kevan is often the engine of positivity pulling a complex train across a landscape, and he does this with incredible finesse. I would love to work with Kevan any day, as a peer and colleague.
Kevan is an extremely talented designer that I had the absolute pleasure of getting to work with at Doblin. He is incredibly effective at communicating, stakeholdering, and keeping projects running smoothly in high pressure environments with diverse teams. His flexibility to bring refined design-thinking into a range of content areas was impressive, and his professionalism never wavered even in the toughest of moments. Above all Kevan is a genuinely kind and caring person– any organisation would be lucky to have him.
Kevan is a brilliant designer and researcher, with an ability to make those around them feel at ease and empowered, a skill he uses to conduct research and manage stakeholders. Throughout our time working together on a complex Discovery work, Kevan was at all times an advocate for human-centred design and someone I looked toward for guidance, advice and inspiration. He brilliantly facilitated workshops, conducted research and excelled at communicating. His persistence and positivity led the team to accomplish amazing outcomes even under tight deadlines while making sure there was enough time to reflect and celebrate accomplishments. I look forward to following Kevan’s career and will certainly miss our time working together.
I worked with Kevan in a research project about residents with dementia and in another about patient and family experiences. Kevan is a pleasure to work with. He has spot-on insights, endless energy and fantastic teamwork skills. He is a resourceful and enthusiastic designer, adaptable to different kinds of requirements.
I studied with Kevan during the first year of our Master Programme at University of Gothenburg and we worked together on a project about ICA, the first grocery retail in Sweden. Kevan is an extraordinary facilitator and an excellent communicator. He brought energy and competence inside our group, giving an incisive direction in our work. Kevan combines with success great skills in design and a strategic business mindset. I would love to have the opportunity to work again with Kevan and I believe he has a bright future ahead of him.
Kevan is passion and energy in its purest form! I met Kevan as a master student in Business & Design where he already showed that he is a very driven and clever designer always focusing on the human aspect in his work. He is professional, structured, creative and pedagogical. I would not hesitate for a second if I got the chance to work with Kevan!
Kevan is a wealth of knowledge and a valuable asset to any and every team. Working with him was nothing short of phenomenal. He has the ability to offer great insights (to which I learnt a lot from him) but also knows when to listen – to which he does so very attentively. I hope that I get to work with Kevan again in the future!
I had the pleasure to supervise Kevan when he wrote his master thesis in the Business & Design master program at university of Gothenburg last year (2017). Kevan showed a great capacity to identify an important topic for research, where the design process and competence can contribute to new knowledge and new solutions. Society faces severe challenges with an aging population and Kevan demonstrated clearly how this will affect workplaces and how design can facilitate company and its management to find ways of handling this. Kevan’s research was a valuable contribution to ongoing research. He is creative and analytic as well as independent and a good listener. I would not hesitate to involve Kevan in future research projects.
Kevan is a very resourceful, highly energetic, professionally responsible designer. Having had several interactions with him while we both lived in Vancouver, I always found him to be a quick learner, committed to becoming an excellent communication designer. He is dependable, intelligent and super-productive. I would enjoy working with him any time.
Kevan is an incredibly talented and empathetic designer and researcher; he has an uncommonly kind approach to everything he does, which is a signifier of his lovely personality. He consistently delivers high standard work and always pushes for a well-thought-out end-to-end experience for those who are impacted by what he creates. In addition to being a very passionate and thoughtful designer, Kevan brings an infectious energy and positivity to every team he leads and is a part of. He creates a space that welcomes different personalities and allows people of various disciplines to work harmoniously together. Kevan is truly a joy to work with and I was lucky to have been able to collaborate with him.
I got to work with Kevan on a very valuable account of mine, where Kevan and team were tasked to run design sessions, but not from a technical point of view, instead, from a human-centered point of view. The work delivered by Kevan was eye-opening to the client and myself, and it was extremely valuable for the project and the client relationship. What struck me the most about Kevan was his passion for the project, his attention to detail, and the way he detailed his findings to the client.
